The collection consists principally of Allin's writings, including articles, reports, book reviews, addresses, speeches and lectures. The bulk of these materials document the economics of U.S. agricultural policy and practice, including analyses of land-use practices, forecasts of future economic conditions, and reports on employment opportunities. The collection also contains biographical information, correspondence, Congressional testimony, and writings by others on topics related to economics and agriculture.

Born on a farm near Harrodsburg, Kentucky, Bushrod Warren Allin lived near Cleburne, Texas, from early youth until he was eighteen years old. He received a B.S. (1921) and a Ph. D. (1927) in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin. He was an instructor (1926-1928) at Wisconsin.
